ABC Had a Primetime Schedule, and Bingo Was Its Game-o

As ABC's upfront presentation helps bring to a close a flurry of attempts to impress advertisers with sub-par primetime offerings, there was one nugget that caught out eye. No, it wasn't offering up the gay nephew on Ugly Betty singing show tunes. And it wasn't promising Christina Applegate could deliver another sitcom with a few seasons of life. It was when ABC entertainment president Steve McPherson told the audience of deep pockets about the network's new game show.
It's called Bingo, and it's for "people who are put off by the complexity of 'Deal or No Deal.'"
Little did you know, this year ABC is going after CBS's audience: octogenarians who can't remember their grandkids' names or genders.
