Angelina Jolie Hits Cannes For A Mighty Heart
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt attended the premiere of her latest film “A Mighty Heart” at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday (May 21). In the film, Angelina portrays Mariane Pearl, the widow of Daniel Pearl, a Wall Street Journal newspaper reporter who was abducted and murdered in 2002. Pitt was a co-producer of the film.
Speaking about the film, Jolie has expressed the scene in which she reenacts Mariane receiving the news of Daniel’s death as being “the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” Mariane Pearl was over five-months pregnant when Daniel was kidnapped. Her son Adam was born just a few months after Daniel was killed.
"For me, so much of why this film was important to do is because I highly doubt there is anybody in this room who has more reason to hold hate inside herself than Mariane, and she doesn’t,” Jolie told reporters.
“That is, I think, a lesson for all of us,” Angelina added.
The movie’s somber tone was reflected in Angelina and Brad’s decision to forgo the typical screening after-party. According to A Socialite’s Life, Brangelina are instead “planning a quiet dinner that will be attended by Winterbottom, the producers, members of the cast and Mariane Pearl, who will be traveling from her home in Paris.”
