Avril Lavigne and Britney Spears: Skin Showdown

Avril Lavigne would like to think that she is growing up. She just got married to fellow Canadian rocker Deryck Whibley of Sum 41. And now she is also turning heads with her racy Blender magazine cover. Unfortunately, her latest moves and comments have made her out to look quite the hypocrite.

So what’s the deal with the Avril scandal? Lavigne has openly criticized Britney Spear’s tendency to use her body to get attention, and now she is pretty much doing the same thing.

Avril once said, “I’m more about a performance, she’s more about entertainment and sex, being a sex symbol and trying to look like she’s having sex,” noting that she wouldn’t use her “great body” to sell records “like Britney Spears does.”

According to MTV.com, Lavigne responded to the hypocrite tag, saying, “Actually, I’m not topless on the cover. I was wearing a tube top, and they just kind of put a banner on top of it.”

And Britney? Well, not to be outdone, the wigged-wonder threw up a topless shot of herself on her website with a thank you message for her fans. Lavigne had said earlier of Britney, “She has paparazzi at her house every day. Then she does things that are crazy, so everyone talks about it.”
