At the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, it looked like Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson just couldn’t keep their hands off one another and were often spotted walking around the event, hand in hand. According to Pete, that’s exactly how he likes it.

“We’re past the honeymoon period,” Wentz told PEOPLE. “The truth is, it’s crazy to be able to kiss your best friend. It’s just a really awesome thing.”

Despite my cynical, tiny, black heart, I’m actually finding myself feeling happy for these two. Although, I do think it’s a shame that Ashlee didn’t find Pete before the major overhaul to which she subjected her physical appearance, because I have this feeling Pete would have liked her just fine with her old face. Digressions aside, Creepy Papa Joe Simpson approves of the match, saying of Pete:

“He’s a good kid.”

…which leaves me to wonder if that means that he’s going to give Wentz a head-start before he decides to sabotage their relationship with his incessant meddling and inappropriate comments.

Ashlee Simpson is turning into a Pete Wentz groupie. She hung out and watched Pete perform as a DJ in Miami at the Cameo nightclub.

Wentz deejayed for about 45 minutes as Simpson sat in the banquette, drinking and dancing in her seat. Wentz had a friendly encounter with fans who jumped up and down, waving from the dance floor as the rocker reached out and grabbed some of their hands. Later, Wentz rocked out to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” and Gwen Stefani’s “The Sweet Escape” - and he sang along with Jermaine Stewart’s 1986 hit, “We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off.” Finishing his set by 3:15 a.m., Wentz slid into the banquette next to Simpson and the two shared some kissing and snuggling.

I’m sure it was a black hoodie, since that’s all she seems to be wearing as of late.
