Music in the Morning: Sex Pistols - ‘God Save the Queen’

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Although it’s hard to believe, October 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the Sex Pistols iconic album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.

Sadly, this was the first and last studio album the hugely influential band ever produced.

Music in the Morning: They Might Be Giants - ‘I’m Impressed’

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

After all these years, They Might Be Giants is still making decent music and producing interesting videos. I’m impressed, too.

Music in the Morning: Bat for Lashes - ‘What’s a Girl to Do’

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Bat for Lashes’ dreamy track “What’s a Girl to Do” is my favorite song today. It helps that director Dougal Wilson crafted an odd video to go along with the song.

Music in the Morning: The Editors - ‘An End has a Start’

Monday, October 1st, 2007

The video for the Editors’ “An End has a Start” looks annoyingly similar to an American Apparel ad, but the song is so addictive, I try to overlook this sad fact.

Music in the Morning: Velvet Underground - ‘Rock and Roll’

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Let Velvet Underground (arguably the greatest rock band in history) help you start the weekend.

Music in the Morning: Pissed Jeans - ‘I’ve Still Got You (Ice Cream)’

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Yes, “Pissed Jeans” might be the worst band name in the history of music, but the band deserves props for making proper punk at a time when radio keeps Avril Lavigne and Nickelback in constant rotation.

Music in the Morning: The Tough Alliance - “First Class Riot”

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Although it’s hard to tell by viewing this video, the media accused the bat-swinging Swedish duo, The Tough Alliance, of glorifying violence and promoting “hooliganism.”

I think I could take both of these boys in a street fight, but whatever.

Music in the Morning: Les Savy Fav - ‘Patty Lee’

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Words cannot even begin to express how much I love the new Les Savy Fav disc, Let’s Stay Friends. Check out the video for the first single, “Patty Lee.”

The girl from “Patty Lee” kind of reminds me of a SNL-lip-syncing Ashlee Simpson meets a “Canned Heat”-dancing Napoleon Dynamite.

Music in the Morning: Jay-Z - ‘Blue Magic’

Monday, September 24th, 2007

“Blue Magic” is the first track off Jay-Z’s forthcoming concept disc American Gangster. Pharrell produced the song, and I think he might have been a bit heavy-handed; “Blue Magic” sounds more like a Pharrell track to me than a Jay-Z track. Regardless, I think we have a lot to look forward to.

Music in the Morning: Nina Simone - “Feeling Good”

Friday, September 21st, 2007

My favorite Nina Simone track for your Friday morning.
