Isaiah Washington Says T.R. Knight Is Responsible for the Hostile Work Environment on “Grey’s”

Tr Isaiah 062407

In an exclusive interview with Keith Boykin, Isaiah Washington said that now that he is no longer an employee of Disney, and consequently is no longer “gagged” from speaking about the issue in detail, he’s ready to tell his side of the story. When speaking with Boykin in a telephone interview, Washington revealed that up until now, he had been hesitant to speak out in depth on the subject out of loyalty to both “Grey’s Anatomy,” and the show’s producer, Shonda Rhimes. But now he says, that his ire is directed specifically at T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl. According to Washington, Knight manipulated both Patrick Dempsey and Washington into an argument by creating tension between the two co-stars and strategically “came out” in order to sway public opinion his way after the on-set fracas. Washington also says that Knight was neither on the set when the f-word was uttered, nor was it directed toward Knight.

“I know Patrick Dempsey has supported me by stating that if there is anyone that needs to be fired it is T.R. Knight because he has created such a negative environment on that set because he felt like he has not been treated and given the same leading man kinds of story lines that have been given to Patrick and Isaiah. He felt like his character was being treated very caricatureish and dopey and he wanted a change.”

Isaiah Washington Blames The Victim

Isaiah Washington’s still going on and on about his firing. Yeah, getting fired sucks and you did do everything they said to make up for it. But you shouldn’t have been a dumbass (squared) in the first place. Now go find another job. You make people uneasy, and you seem like a loon. Anyway, “seems like” has been replaced with “is” since he says that T.R. Knight should have been fired instead of him. What the hell did T.R. do? Whining and carrying an imaginary cross around on your back isn’t grounds for firing!

I Washington 061907-1“They fired the wrong guy,” says Isaiah Washington.

Washington, 43, who was let go on June 7, has been slammed with negative publicity since October, when he uttered an anti-gay slur during an on-set disagreement with costar Patrick Dempsey.

In a telephone interview with the Houston Chronicle, Washington claims that it was Knight who propagated the idea that the slur was targeted at him and created a negative work environment.

More on what Isaiah Washington had to say, plus what J. has to say about the whole thing after the jump.

Cute Pocket Gay Staying, Gets Raise

T.R. Knight is staying on “Grey’s Anatomy” and getting a raise . Maybe he can lend Isaiah a few bucks.

T.R. Knight, a.k.a. the lovable George O’Malley, is expected to return as a series regular. Speculation has been swirling about his possible departure from Seattle Grace — not only because of what happened in the May 17 finale (George didn’t pass the intern exam!) but because of the incident earlier this season with co-star Isaiah Washington (who addressed him with a homophobic slur). According to one insider close to the negotiation, Knight has agreed to a new contract that will boost his per-episode salary to roughly $125,000 and give him a small piece of the show profits (pay hikes and profit points were also granted to many of Knight’s co-stars, including Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, and Sandra Oh).

A couple of mill a year ain’t bad for a cutesy lil’ gay! Go on with your bad self! He’s really leading the charge for short-looking gays everywhere. I’m only 5′8 and I feel he’s really opened doors for people like me. Screw those tall meth queens at brunch, all blond-highlighted with the cut-off t-shirts and the gym bunny abs. It’s short and stumpy for 2008!

Comment Of The Day

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

As we write this, we’re looking out the window and salivating over the picture perfect weather outside, currently being wasted on lazy unemployed persons and pretentious NYU students. And so, for your sanity and ours, we’ve decided to kick off a glorious new feature called “Comment of the Day,” to provide a transient glimmer of […]

More “Grey’s Anatomy” Uncertainty

It looks like our guess is as good as T.R. Knight’s as to whether or not his character, George, will be returning to next season’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” When Access Hollywood spoke with Knight at last night’s OBIE awards in NYC, the actor indicated that he did not yet know if he was still on the show.

“I literally don’t know,” he said. “It would be nice to know if I’m supposed to report back soon.”

The show’s recent finale had George failing his intern test, leaving his fate for the returning season up in the air, and T.R. anxious to know if he needs to be scanning the want ads for work.

“If you’re supposed to report back to work in a month and a half, I would really like to know that,” he remarked, adding, “because I would like to know if I can shave my head.”

I’m so behind in my Grey’s watching. Maybe because it’s become difficult to keep track of which character’s sleeping with which. At least they all seem to be behaving backstage now, but then again, that’s kind of boring.

As vetrens of the stage can screen, who better than T.R. Knight and Cynthia Nixon could have hosted the 2007 Obie Awards which honor Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway shows. The twist on this award show is that recipients are chosen by a panel without the complication of selecting or announcing nominees.

Presenters included Angela Lansbury, Camryn Manheim, Michael Cerveris, Terrence McNally, Stephanie March, Liev Schreiber, William Ivey Long and Anika Noni Rose. The full list on winners is here.

“Grey’s Anatomy” Pocket Gay Was Told Not To Come Out

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

Splashnews Jlla020207M 013

Adorable tiny gay T.R. Knight told “The Advocate” that he was advised not to come out initially. This story would be hotter if he would have specified who told him that, but it’s kinda vague. If it was “ABC executives”, we’d be getting somewhere. Speak up, little one! I will say this - he’s one of those guys who can look adorable or busted depending on the hair and the picture. On the cover of “The Advocate” he’s all lumberjacked up, with hot hair and a dog over his shoulders. He might need me to stalk him.

While friends were “beautifully supportive,” Knight, 34, tells The Advocate in its June 19 issue, others cautiously advised him, “Don’t do it - don’t do it now.”

Looking back, he says, “I remember saying to someone when I got one of those ‘don’t do it’ [comments] - I just remember hearing my voice being calm and saying, ‘No, it’s going happen. It’s going to happen. I’m just letting you know.’ ”

Ultimately, he’s glad he decided to come out after castmate Isaiah Washington referred to him on-set by a homophobic slur. “I made the decision to make a statement,” he says. “I could have not [spoken up]. I could have retreated. But I’m definitely happy I made the decision.” (Washington has since apologized.)

He goes on to reveal that Katherine Heigl is his main fag hag and her quote reveals what a selfish narcissist she is because she’s all “oh, that’s why he didn’t want to date me”. Get over yourself, Princess! Not everyone on the planet thinks you’re a piece of ass. I remember when you were on “Roswell” and playing some alien bitch and no one know who you were. Settle down!
