Finally Someone Addresses the “Wannabes”

Left and right celebrities who have been pampered with a stylist and team of groomers are pumping out fashion lines. Everyone from tween queen hilary Duff to the Hilton sisters are now “designers.”
Now that the Olsen twins are cranking out yet another line of clothing, this time being focused on the high end market, some of the “real designers” are beginning to show their frustrations. The NY times finally brought up the subject in real terms. Phillip Lim, worked…yes worked, on getting his name on a label for nearly 10 years. The twins are constantly a fashion disaster and boast an empire. Where is the talent and hours toiling over sketch books? Yet the girls presented Lim with an award from the CFDA.
“You think, ‘Wow, how unfair. ” Lim said admitting his feelings toward celebrity designers. While Vera Wang states, “Celebrities have made it harder for real designers.”
So the growing question is “what about the talent that “real” designers bring?” It’s a love/hate relationship where designers depend on celebs to wear their products, but now the shoe is on the other foot.
