It’s here again: movie season!  With the upcoming Memorial Day weekend upon us, it’s time to see what the new batch of movies are made of.  We’ve already seen Spiderman 3 shatter the opening weekend record, and Shrek The Third is close behind.  Can the latest Johnny Depp film topple them all?

It’s true that there is fierce competition for box office notoriety this season.  But it looks like the latest Pirates of the Caribbean installment - At World’s End - will fare just fine.  Doubting their ability to overtake the Spiderman 3 record, Pirate producer Jerry Bruckheimer said, ``I don’t think you can break their record, because when they came in the marketplace, there weren’t a lot of big movies. So there were a lot of screens available.”

Bruckheimer continued, “We’ll have two huge movies in the marketplace. We can’t get the amount of seats they had…So I doubt if we’ll do it, but you never know. If we get opened to a nice number, I’ll be thrilled.’’

Regardless of the opening outcome, movie studios are expecting the busiest Memorial Day reap in history.  “I just love that opening-weekend thrill, being there with all the avid fans,’’ Disney’s Viane said. ``The most exciting time to view a movie is that first weekend, when you can be part of what I call the communal effect of cinema and you can share the laughter and the cheers with a sold-out auditorium.’’

Get out there and buy some movie tickets.  There’s never been a better time to go to the movies!
