Natalie Portman Teams With FINCA
Natalie Portman is making the world a better place by helping poor women get small loans to help change their lives for the better.
The Israeli-born film actress has joined forces with the organization FINCA International, which gives small loans to poor people in developing countries.
Natalie spoke to the TV show “This Week,” reporting that she had met many mothers who were younger than her and who were forced to work in bad conditions for a low salary because it was the only job they could get.
“Getting this loan enables them to start their own business out of their own house and be with their children. It changes the whole system,” Natalie said.
“If a woman can’t tell her child, ‘I can feed you tomorrow, I can pay for your school,’ then what happens? What do they do? What do they choose?” asks Natalie.
“It’s really trying to reach the poorest of the poor and offering banking services to them,” Portman concluded.
