UPDATE: An eagle-eyed reader found this AP article on the subject, which points out that:

When she [Paris] was sentenced May 4, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled that she would not be allowed any work release, furloughs or use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail.

So, it will be interesting to hear what exactly her medical “justification” for transfer ends up being. I really hope it isn’t serious, cause then I’ve just made myself sound like a heartless douche. Which is nothing new, really.

Initial reports made it look like somehow, Paris Hilton had been released from serving her jail sentence early, but TMZ has since clarified that the heiress has simply been transferred to house arrest. Medical reasons were cited by L.A. County Sherriff’s Dept. mouthpiece, Steve Whitmore, as to why Hilton has been fitted with an ankle bracelet and will now be serving her time from the comfort of her home.

Paris will be under house confinement in her West Hollywood home for 40 days. After the 40 days are up, Whitmore says she will have “fulfilled her debt to society.”

Whitemore wants to makeit clear that Paris was not released early, she was reassigned. She is still technically in custody.

Well, shit. Maybe she did bust her teeth.
