Curtains Come Early For Rosie O’Donnell
As a follow-up to the Elisabeth Hasselbeck story we ran yesterday, there have been some developments in the relationship between The View and Rosie O’Donnell. The outspoken co-host was scheduled to depart from the show on June 22nd, but now she will not return “after the Memorial Day weekend,” according to ABC’s website.
Regarding the early departure, Brian Frons, ABC’s daytime television group president, said that the decision was all Rosie. “We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract three weeks from now, but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave,” Mr. Frons said. “Therefore we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to ‘The View’ and wish her well.”
And it looks like there’s no love lost between O’Donnell and Barbara Walters. Walters, the co-owner/co-host/co-producer of the talk show said in a statement that their “close and affectionate relationship will not change.”
Rosie is choosing to see the split as a positive thing. In a statement released by ABC, Ms. O’Donnell said: “I’m extremely grateful. It’s been an amazing year and I love all three women.”
Rosie even posted a poem about her departure on her blog. Her haiku reads as follows:
“when painting there is a point
u must step away from the canvas
as the work
is done
anymore would take away.”
Enough said.
